Where do you go for conversion?

Someone I know has VHS tapes from Japan that he wants to convert/transfer to US-region (that's region 1, right?) DVDs. What's the best way to go about this?

Are Japanese VHS tapes still NTSC? Seem like the only problem would be if the tape had some form of copy guard applied.

Should be able to use a regular video tape to DVD-R one piece recorder hooked up to your TV.

Japan uses (used?) the NTSC system, so any tapes from Japan will play in your American VHS machine. There are a number of places that will do VHS -> DVD (even some drug stores), but a) they will...

I've got an LG VHS-to-DVD-+R recorder with which I've been very happy. It was between $3-400 when new and has been worth every penny.

As it happens, I have something similar--but I misplaced the manual and haven't a clue as to how to make DVD copies of VHS tapes.

Lots of manufacturers (all of them?) now post the manuals and instructions on their websites. Might want to check out that possibility.
